My book, “when my name was keoko” is valuable because it shows another part of WW2 that isn't talked about a lot. It's also showing and telling more about the war before the United States entered it. The book ends with every Korean getting their freedom and culture back. The valuable idea of the book was persavilence because any obstacle that would come they would always be able to get past it. Not just individually or a family group. Tae-yul went to war and became a kamikaze pilot but he crashed his plane on the water so that he didn't have to die. Sun-hee would find out everything to protect her brother or family members. Then their uncle left them to protect them because he was working with an underground Korean organization.
In the last chapter of the book in Sun-hees point of view she says “the war had changed so many things”. They had been able to presivel through everything. It's still a valuable idea today because there is still war going on and family and individuals going through the same obstacles.

My book “when my name was keoko” by Linda Sue Park. Is about when Japan had taken over Korea in 1910. But it’s taking place in the year 1940. The Japanese want to completely take away Korean culture. The main characters are Sun-hee, Tae-yul, father, mother and their uncle. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and are now fighting the United States. Their uncle suddenly decides to leave and sun-hee doesn't know why. Tae-yul tells Sun-hee their uncle left because he was working with an underground Korean resistance to print korean newspapers. Tae-yul then decides to go to the military even though his parents don't approve. At the end when war is finally over tae-yul and uncle come back home. A current day connection to this would be religious conflicts. Some people still wont accept other cultures. In my book Japan had tried to get rid of Korean culture.
The story line is taking place during world war 2. The Japanese invade Manchuria and are slowly invading China. They have taken over Korea in 1910 and want to completely get rid of their culture they have also put many laws for Koreans. Koreans must speak and learn Japanese. The Korean flag can't be posted anywhere. Koreans must also change their name to Japanese names. Sun-hee and tae-yul's uncle is angered by the new law (changing Korean names to Japanese ones). Sun-hee and Tae-yul are upset that they have to change their names and aren't allowed to talk a lot of Korean only at home. Omani and Abuji don't show their feelings a lot but are upset with all the new laws. All of the Koreans are upset and angered with all the laws the Japanese people have put. All these events compare to real-life historic because Japan did take over Korea and slowly invaded China. They also tried to get rid of their culture and not give Koreans many jobs or business to do. Other connections that were made were in Chapter 7 .Sun-hee said "It didn't really interest me" she explained that it didn't interest her since she knew little about the place.
